Whistleblower protection
A clear reporting channel, confidentiality and follow-up. Tilkynna helps workplaces manage whistleblowing reports
Whistleblower protection in Iceland
Act No. 40/2020 protects individuals who report, in good faith, violations of the law or other reprehensible conduct within their employer’s operations. To qualify for protection against retaliation, individuals must meet the conditions set out in the Act.
Under Article 5, workplaces with an average of 50 or more employees over the year must establish written procedures in consultation with employees. These procedures must cover how reports are received, handled and resolved, and must be accessible to employees.

How does Tilkynna help workplaces handle whistleblowing reports?
Tilkynna is a secure whistleblowing system that helps workplaces receive reports, communicate with reporters and follow up on cases in one place. It gives case managers a clear overview and makes it easier to request further information as a case progresses.
- A dedicated reporting channel: Your workplace gets its own reporting portal with a unique web address. You can publish guidance and reporting procedures for employees.
- Ongoing communication: The person who submits a report can access the communication portal using an identification number and password. They can add information, share documents and check the status of their case.
- Anonymous reporting: Your workplace can allow employees to submit reports without providing their name. The reporting portal can include clear instructions on how to do this.
- Organised case management: Case managers can categorise reports, add notes and update case statuses.
- A record of actions: An activity log records actions taken in the system, helping case managers keep track of how cases have been handled.
Clear procedures are essential
Define who receives reports and is responsible for follow-up, who can access cases and how people who submit reports will receive updates. Employees also need to know where to submit a report and how to continue communicating with case managers.
Using Tilkynna does not automatically provide legal protection or, on its own, ensure compliance with legal obligations. The workplace must ensure that reports and confidential information are handled in accordance with the law and its own procedures.
